Intervention Lens is a graph view on Analyze → Dashboard. It puts a strategy against the outcomes you logged — how often a behavior happened before and after the first day that strategy appears in your dates.
You pick the strategy, and you pick the behavior category to measure.
It counts how many times something was logged (events per day). Duration is not used here.
This chart is on the website.
Before you start
Staff log strategies on the daily Behavior tab, in a strategy category — by default Intervention Strategies. See Logging a behavior.
The chart needs at least one strategy logged in your dates. If no strategy category has anything logged in these dates, the page says No strategies logged in this date range.
Pick a strategy and what to measure
- Choose a STRATEGY from the dropdown. Each option is one strategy name (for example Redirected to a quiet area), and you look at one strategy at a time. The list shows how many times it was logged in this range and the first date it appears here — for example
Redirected to a quiet area (3x since Aug 4, 2026). Only names logged in these dates are on the list. Switch strategies to compare them. - Choose one category under MEASURED AGAINST. That is the category in the big chart. The page opens on Challenging Behavior when that category is available, otherwise Warning Behavior. The smaller charts below cover the other categories.
MEASURED AGAINST lists the behavior categories that are not marked as strategies — Desirable, Challenging, Warning, and your custom ones. To hide one from this list, a manager opens that category (not a strategy category) and sets Success defined by to N/A — not used with Intervention Lens.
How the chart splits
A vertical line marks the first day that strategy appears in this date range. The tag reads Strategy first logged: plus the strategy name.
- Days to the left of the line are before.
- The first-logged day and every day after it are after.
Later uses of the same strategy do not move the line. Only that first day in the range matters.
The bars are the daily count for the measured category.
Two dashed horizontal lines mark the averages:
- Gray, to the left of the split — the before average (the baseline)
- Green, to the right of the split — the after average
If there are no before days, the gray line is not drawn. If nothing was logged on one side, that side’s average is 0 and its line sits on the bottom of the chart — you will only see the other line.
Three numbers sit above the chart.
The label events / day is a rate: how often that category was logged, on average, per day. It says "day" because that is the unit of the rate — like miles per hour after a three-hour drive. 0.3 events / day means 0.3 events each day, averaged across those calendar days.
Before and after use the same math: total events in the measured category, divided by every calendar day in that stretch. Days with nothing logged still count as 0.
- events / day, before — that rate for every calendar day to the left of the split. A dash (—) here means there are no days to the left of the split (that dash is not a line on the chart).
- after "…" (first logged …) — that rate from the first-logged day through the end of the range.
- change in daily frequency — how much the after average moved relative to the baseline, as a percent
Smaller charts under the main chart use the same split and the same percent as the big chart for that category. Pick that category under MEASURED AGAINST and the number matches. When the big chart shows n/a, those smaller percents show a dash (—).
Note: the first-logged day is only this range
The split is the first time that strategy was logged in the dates you picked, not the first time it was ever used for this profile.
If that first day is the start of your range, there are no before days — so there is no baseline. The first number shows a dash, the gray average line is not drawn, and the percent shows n/a with no baseline before this date. Start the range earlier so some days sit before that first use.
The note under the chart — Widen the range for a longer baseline — means include more days before that first log, so the before average is based on more days.
The percent is also n/a when there are before days but nothing in the measured category was logged on any of them. The average is then actually 0 — not a small number rounded to 0.0. The first number shows 0.0, the gray line sits on the bottom of the chart, and the third number shows n/a with no baseline before this date. A percent cannot be calculated from zero.
To change the dates, see Date ranges.
Green and red
The percent is colored from Success defined by on the measured category:
- Fewer events (decrease) — a drop is green; a rise is red. This is the default for Challenging and Warning.
- More events (increase) — a rise is green; a drop is red. This is the default for Desirable.
Reading the percent
The percent compares daily averages, not how many events happened in total. Empty days still count as 0, so a long before stretch with one event is a small baseline, and a short after stretch with one event is a much higher average. One bar on each side of the split can still show a very large percent — for example 0.0, 0.3, and +867%.
The numbers above the chart round to one decimal. One event over many before days can display as 0.0 and still produce a percent — that 0.0 is rounding, not an average of zero. An actual average of zero (no events on any before day) shows 0.0 on the first number and n/a on the third.
A short range on either side of the split makes the percent jumpy. Widen the dates so both sides have enough days, and read the bars — not only the percent.
Who sets strategy vs measured against
Intervention Strategies is the default strategy category. Managers can mark other behavior categories as strategies too — including custom ones — and you can have more than one. When more than one strategy category has data, the STRATEGY list groups names by category.
Managers set this under Organization Settings → Tracking Templates. Open Category settings (the cog) on a behavior category. Under Intervention Lens Graph Settings you will see Use as intervention / strategy category.
- Check that box for categories where the team logs what they did in response. Those names fill the STRATEGY list. While the box is checked, Success defined by is hidden — that control is only for categories you measure against.
- Leave the box unchecked for categories you compare against. Then Success defined by appears: Fewer events (decrease), More events (increase), or N/A — not used with Intervention Lens. N/A takes that category off MEASURED AGAINST.
Intervention Strategies always feeds the STRATEGY list. Checking the box on other categories adds those as well. Environment and health categories cannot be strategies.
If every remaining outcome category is set to N/A, the page says No outcome categories available to measure against.
Exporting
Export PDF on the Dashboard captures the view you have open, so set the strategy and the measured category first. See Exporting PDF reports.
Common questions
- It says no strategies logged. — Nothing was logged in any strategy category in these dates. Widen the dates, or log the strategy on the daily Behavior tab.
- A strategy I use is not in the list. — It was not logged in these dates. Widen the dates.
- The percent says n/a / no baseline before this date. — Either there are no before days (first number is a dash), or there are before days with zero events in the measured category (first number is 0.0, third number is n/a). That is different from a small average that rounds to 0.0 and still shows a percent. The smaller charts show — instead of n/a.
- I don't see N/A in Tracking Templates. — That option is under Organization Settings → Tracking Templates. Open the cog on a category you measure against, uncheck Use as intervention / strategy category, and Success defined by appears. N/A — not used with Intervention Lens is the third option. The third number on the chart can also show n/a when there is no percent.
- A category is missing under MEASURED AGAINST. — A manager set Success defined by to N/A, or the category is marked Use as intervention / strategy category.
- Can I turn off Intervention Strategies as a strategy? — That category still appears on the STRATEGY list. Mark other behavior categories as strategies alongside it.
- The percent is huge (hundreds of percent) but the bars look similar. — The percent compares daily averages, not totals. A long before stretch with one event vs a short after stretch with one event will jump. The before number can also round to 0.0 while the percent still uses a small real baseline. Widen the dates so both sides have more days.
- Can I compare two strategies side by side? — Not in one chart. Switch strategies in the dropdown.
